Indiana Rockbass Tips

The best time to target rock bass is in the spring when they are in
spawning mode. Casting a small lure, say the size of a Rapala Shad
Rap 5 or smaller will trigger a lot of bites.
You can also run live bait and just jig the bait in likely spots. Another
awesome lure to use is a beetle spin in the 1/4 ounce or 1/8 ounce
size. Yellow with black stripes has always been a big time producer.
Feeder streams are always a hot spot for rock bass. Especially feeder
streams that several different roads might cross over. This gives you
a place to fish at each crossing. Any cover, deeper pool, or current
break will stand a good chance of holding fish.
Downstream of dams are also productive. These fish are strong
fighters, but 2 pound test is enough if you are not near brush.
Generally, use 4 pound test so you can turn the fish if you need to. If
you are jigging near brush, you might want to go even heavier so you
can lift the fish straight up and out of the water.
They are very fun to catch, nice table fare, and not too many people
target these fish.
