Indiana Bowfin Fishing

HERE BOW BOW BOW
Bowfin put up a heck of a fight, but most anglers are disappointed
when they see the fish that they have been fighting is a bowfin.  Even
anglers that practice catch and release don't like catching bowfin.
Their eggs are actually sold as caviar.

Bowfin are fast growers putting up to 12 inches in their first year of
life.  Mostly they prefer the pools in rivers and slower moving water.
In the north, the Kankakee river, it's sloughs and bayous and feeder
streams make perfect habitat for the bowfin.  The prettiest of the
bowfin family is the spawning male.  He gets green colored fins and a
really odd colored bright green mouth.
